Samples

I have professional writing experience ranging from blog articles in the niche of parenting and family dynamics, graduate level research assignments, analysis of public education law, narratives, marketing, curriculum development, etc.

I invite you to view my samples below. These include only part of my repertoire, and I am in the process of publishing more to my site. Please reach out if you would like to see a written piece about a specific topic, or if you are seeking assistance on an upcoming project of your own.

Master's Project:
Educational Research

This sample is an academic piece. It was written during my graduate coursework using an extensive research study I completed on gender grouping in education.

This sample includes all aspects of a research paper in proper APA style. It includes a review of scholarly literature, quantitative and qualitative research questions, methodology, data, and the summary of results.

As an English Subject Matter Expert, I was recruited to collaborate with fellow educators on an Anthology Alignment Project. This project was published by Achieve the Core, an online company that provides ready-to-use classroom resources that support standards-aligned instruction.

The Anthology Alignment Project took a collection of selected writings and lessons from textbooks developed prior to Common Core State Standards. Each lesson is reviewed and revamped by a team of teachers to improve standards alignment, while emphasizing quality sequenced text-dependent questions, improved integrated writing tasks, and a focus on academic vocabulary.

I was responsible for designing new standard-aligned lessons for Echo and Narcissus and Hearts and Hands, narratives published in Holt Elements of Literature textbooks.

Lesson Creation & Design:
Commas in Complex Sentences

Being a classroom teacher for 10 years, one of my main responsibilities was to design engaging and rigorous learning experiences for a diverse target audience.

Creating excellent lessons and materials requires backwards design, while keeping in mind appropriate standards, pacing guidelines, and desired instructional outcomes.

This sample contains a full lesson plan focused around teaching the rules commas in complex sentences. The sample also includes instructional resources that I developed from scratch: an interactive slide deck for facilitators to use during their presentation, and practice materials for learners to gain understanding and proficiency.

Assessment:
Analysis of Public Ed Law

This sample includes my responses to an assessment for an educational law class.

For this written assessment, I was provided several detailed scenarios or letters of admonition, which served as examples of specific misconduct from educators, or their failure to perform duties. These were hypothetical situations from “Nirvana School District”.

I was asked to either describe the basic problems inherent in each scenario, give examples of associated laws/regulations, or related court cases. This written sample does not include the original scenarios or question prompts; only my answers. It is meant to give a snapshot of my ability to take a legal scenario, research similar and related findings, analyze actions accordingly, or suggest legally sound advice from an educational leader standpoint.
